Your Tractor Home Magazine

Thank you for visiting Tractor Home, your one stop to shop and list your farming, gardening, ranching, camping goods and pick up trucks, for free!! Hi, my name is Mike. My wife Adrienne and I had a vision to create Tractorhome.com and Tractor Home Magazine. I grew up on a farm in the summers of Louisiana and found out you can take the boy out of the farm but the farm stays in the boy forever. I hope you enjoy what I have done in here. This site is intended for everyone to use here in the United States, but since we are in Southern California I am hoping that more Californians will take to it. In my free time, along with some of my family members, I have an invested interest in a Vineyard, located up in Tehachapi, California just off of the 58 freeway east of Bakersfield. My day job is working for Chevrolet and one of the things I love the most are pick up trucks as most of you do. I enjoyably research different trucks all the time and do the same for tractors. My wife Adrienne, who is a farm girl from Oklahoma by the way, has a dream of one day opening a country store in Los Angeles, California, We enjoy a simple life of farming, working in the garden at home, driving our Diesel Pick Up Truck and raising our ducks, Daisy and Bubba. We encourage anyone who has similar interests, such as farming, camping, gardening and off roading to become a member and join us in realizing our dream with Tractor Home. This site is free to use and I do my best to keep spam out of here. If you would like to list your goods here then please become a free member above, on the top right side of this page. This site is also a great place to advertise your business since every word in here is a key word, for example if someone was to use one of the search engines and puts John Deere tractor parts in Bakersfield or something like that, Tractor Home would appear as one of the results. At this time we are getting currently around 20,000 views a day here in California so if you have a product that you are selling and would be interested in a banner ad then please let us know.

A Little about Tehachapi and the Martini Vineyard

Tehachapi is a small town about 120 miles north of Los Angeles, off of the 58 freeway just east of Bakersfield and west of Mojave. The elevation starts around 4500 feet, with clean crisp air to breathe. The winter snow makes this a magical little country town with the summers getting up into the mid 80's. This town contains many stores including a K-mart and lots of little Mom and Pop shops up and down the main street. Tehachapi is also cluttered with country cafes that serve both the locals as well as the tourists that come to town. (This is a similar town as in the older television show Roseanne.) There are a few hotels and motels to visit while staying a night or two in Tehachapi. The room rates average about $100.00 per night. If you are driving down from Los Angeles there are two ways to come. The fastest way is through the desert which takes you through Santa Clarita, Palmdale and Lancaster, getting off in Mojave, where you will meet the 58 going west off of the 14 freeway. Make sure to check out Mike's Road house Cafe in Mojave where you can get ham and eggs for $4.99 (great food and fast friendly service). The other way into Tehachapi is to go north on the 5 towards highway 99, taking highway 58 east, and then crossing into Bakersfield.

If you like home made pies and other desserts then make sure to take a stroll on Main Street Tehachapi, I have found so many little Mom and Pop shops that have great tasting sweets. For some reason everything seems to taste better when you are in the fresh mountain air!! Whatever you are in the mood for, you can find it on Main Street.

Nestled in the rolling hills of Cummins Valley is the Martini Vineyard, which our family started about three years ago. It is located just about 8 miles West of Tehachapi Township. A winery is in the planning and just a week ago we planted pumpkins to add to the crop of this 250 acre hobby farm. Chandra Livingston is the boss that makes sure that all the work gets done by keeping the weeds down and making sure all the crops get their water. Great job Chandra!! It is always a ton of fun when the family is there, planting seedlings, off roading, cooking outdoors and enjoying one another. There is nothing more beautiful than a sunset or a sunrise over the Tehachapi mountains.

If you are into wine tasting, there are several places to indulge yourself. One of the best that I know of is Jurassic Legacies located next to Martini Vineyard in Cummins Valley. It offers a quiet, peaceful ambiance, sitting in the middle of a vineyard surrounded by the Tehachapi mountains. Nothing like tasting wine in the vineyard from which it was produced!! Tastefully done in a rustic decor, they provide fine wines to taste and purchase along with lots of goodies and souvenirs to take along with you at the end of your visit. It is sure to be a memorable experience.

We hope you enjoy your time in Tehachapi and hope that we have made it easier to find what you are looking for while you are there. More suggestions and stories to come in the future.

A little bit about us Country Girls and our home fashion

What does a farm girl have to do to get a great price on clothes that are fit to handle the tough job of being a country girl? Hello my name is Adrienne and living here in the city of Los Angeles, it is tough to keep my country heart satisfied finding country clothing and decor for our home. I found the best time to buy western clothing at places like Boot Barn, is at the end of each season. I did find one Boot Barn in Torrance just off of Hawthorne Blvd and Artesia. Other places I have found great deals would be when going for parts with my husband Mike to South Kern Machinery ( John Deere ) in Bakersfield. They have a nice little selection of things like toys, clothing, iron skillets, pot holders and more. In Santa Clarita Valley we have found some feed shops just off of the 14 freeway in Acton that had a few deals on things as well. One of my dreams would be to open a nice little country store for those country hearted folks out here on the west side of town. I am sure all of you country gals out there are just like me. We love to find great deals on items such as quilts, baskets, pottery, cookware, and all sorts of cute country decorations for our homes. That is definitely one of the things I miss the most while living in Los Angeles. There are not any country stores out here!! My husband and I did find a really great nursery in Zuma Beach on one of our trips to Malibu, Ca. They had a terrific selection of garden pottery, plants and flowers. The most memorable thing about that particular nursery was the chickens, ducks, roosters and bunny rabbits running around free. I felt like I was back on the farm!! We have found that the Lowes located off of the 105 freeway in Hawthorne has really good deals on outdoor barbeques, patio furniture, chair cushions, gardening supplies and all sorts of outdoor decorations for your garden. I have even found some really cute country plates and bowls at The Dollar Tree in Gardena right off of the 405 and Normandie in the Wal-Mart shopping center. I forgot to mention, if you have kids and they are into hot rods or trucks then please visit the little parts store where Mike is at Martin Chevrolet in Torrance California.

Saving money on your day off

These days with money being so tight, it is hard to take our loved ones out. Why pay those high prices of restaurants and other places that you usually go to? Show him or her you really care while enjoying all of the things that are free in life, such as going on a picnic at the beach or a park. Holding each others hand on a nature walk, with so many wonderful places to choose from that the state of California has kept up for us. You don't even have to make lunch. Pick up a subway sandwich for $5.00 and a bottle of wine at Trader Joes for $2.50 along with some fresh fruit and you have a great inexpensive meal fit for a wonderful day. Take a drive up the coast and smell the clean air by our oceans. Staying home on our days off, we find our selves in front of the TV and that is just not healthy. Remember, staying healthy and happy keeps our tomorrows worry free.

About buying a car or truck at the right price

Now back to the truth about buying and selling cars. I have been selling cars for a while now and just last January, I tried to sell a foreign car for a short time with no excitement in the product (Toyota). Now back with GM (Chevrolet) and the excitement in the product, I realized while the economy is at its worst, Chevrolet really is a better deal then buying a foreign car. While standing in the showroom next to a well equipped Chevrolet Cobalt I realized that compared to a lesser equipped Toyota Corolla, you would be saving almost $2000.00 (that is around $60.00 less on your payment per month) by purchasing the Chevrolet. And that is not all! The financing has low to 0% interest at GM, plus there are other programs within GM that include rebates as high as $5000.00 on some of their Chevrolet models. I am a truck guy and I found myself staring at the all new Silverado pick up trucks compared to Toyota's Tundra. I definitely see why in most cases, people would buy a Chevrolet truck over any others on the market. It has a very nice interior, much like a high end car, while the exterior has the toughness of the Tonka trucks we used to play with as kids. If you are into pulling a lot of weight, then the Duramax Diesel is the motor for you in the Chevrolet Silverado HD models. The improved 2011 Diesel has more horse power and torque, plus it gets around 11 percent better fuel economy compared to the 2010 and later models. Producing 397 horse power and 765 pounds of torque, this new Duramax is the new diesel dog on the road. And if you are just looking for a car to get you around town that will save you some fuel, then you may want to check out the Chevrolet Areo. This car starts at a price comparable to pricing fifteen years ago. I did not know you could buy a car for that price any more! And don't forget about the all American Chevrolet Suburban....the founder of the full size SUV and the elite version of its younger sister, the Chevrolet Tahoe.

One last thing I would like to share since I am finding out so many exciting things now about the new car and truck lines here at Chevrolet. Remember the days when we used to go for a family ride in our van conversions? Here at Martin Chevrolet, I cannot believe that I am seeing the Martin Chevrolet Express van with an Explorer Conversion. Lush leather seats, flat screen full size television sets and thick carpet with the ride of a limousine. If you were planning on spending a lot of money for a new SUV for your family.... stop! These vans have everything and cost as much as it would to get into an SUV.

Come see me about getting into a new or used Chevrolet today, here at Martin Chevrolet in Torrance California.
